“Launched in 2007, APA is a relatively young organization. However, in the short time since it was established it has done good work supporting professionals of African origin and empowering them to reach their full potential in their chosen field. This support helps individuals to grow and develop, serves local communities that benefit directly from their skills and improves the capacity of the nation’s workforce. These are important ingredients for a strong economy and national prosperity and the APA’s work is greatly valued. Beyond its core purpose, the work of APA enriches our multicultural society and strengthens the people-to-people links that underpin the relationship between Australia and the African continent. The career success enjoyed by people in this room is testament to the important contribution that African Australians have made to shape the modern, vibrant nation that we all enjoy today”.
The Honourable Julia Gillard, Prime Minister of Australia. Sydney, 16 June, 2012
