Funmi represents the rising profile of African tech women; initially starting out as an architect but now working as a digital project manager she has a unique perspective of both worlds (tech and non-tech) and has been able to link the two in her new profession as an urban strategist and user experience specialist.
Funmi is a prolific researcher, writer, and an excellent orator and has been invited to speak at several events in her native country of Nigeria. She’s scheduled to speak at the CEEE|Gov Days 2019.
Funmi holds a Bachelors and Masters degree in Architecture from the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA). She is currently conducting doctoral research on African Smart Sustainable Cities with a focus on digital innovation and people-centric urban information systems.
She has undergone several international courses on front-end web development, UI/UX, digital marketing, Agile PM and Scrum methodologies
Funmi has been involved in providing consultancy services for real estate development outfits. Starting her career as a design architect at Archisynthesis Ltd., she created several contemporary buildings for individuals, corporate organizations.
Her exposure to the dynamics of the real estate sector while working at Legacy Realties Ltd., a foremost real estate developer in Lagos; afforded her the ability to experience both the technical and practical side of the business. Here, she worked extensively in different roles as resident, design and project architect alongside the team of professionals that that worked on the multi-billion naira Ocean Bay Estate Phase 1 project at Lekki.
In the course of her 13 – year career, she has worked on teams that delivered several estate developments to Schlumberger, Shell Co-operative and Total staff.
In November 2017, her company Mauve Emblem was selected as part of the pioneer group of start-ups that participated in the Google Developers Launchpad Start Lagos.
Funmi is currently the regional representative for SmartIScity Ltd. (EU), whose flagship product SmartCityPlatform is innovative digital governance in smart cities.
Volunteering & Community Service
Funmi has been involved in several volunteering engagements for international and local organizations over the years. These include:
- Event planning and logistics management for Women in Tech, Nigeria (2018).
- Database management in DigiVol for Australian Museum Research Institute (2018).
- Assistant Secretary and exco member, Membership Support Unit, Daystar Christian Center, Lagos (2014 – till date).
- Event planning and logistics management as Assistant Head, Logistics and Liaison Department, Career Plus Unit, Daystar Christian Center, Lagos (2011).
- Curriculum development and technical consultant (low-income Community Projects), Negucci Nigeria (2009).
