About APA
What is African Professionals of Australia (APA)?
African Professionals of Australia (APA) is a national professional community connecting African professionals through people, pathways and resources that support professional growth, leadership, enterprise, community and contribution across Australia.
APA works through chapters, programs, events, mentoring, stories, partnerships and opportunities to contribute. What is available changes over time, so the website should show current opportunities rather than promise every program at all times.
Chapters & states
Which states does APA operate in?
APA has chapter activity across Australia. Check the Chapters page for the current status, leadership and contact details in each state.
- Western Australia (WA) — see current status
- Victoria (VIC) — see current status
- New South Wales (NSW) — see current status
- Queensland (QLD) — see current status
- South Australia (SA) — see current status
- Tasmania (TAS) — see current status
Each chapter provides a local entry point for professional connection, events and participation within APA’s national system.
Can I join APA if I live outside these states?
Yes. You can participate in APA nationally even where a local chapter pathway is limited or still developing. Use the Chapters, Events and Find Your Place pages to see current options.
As APA continues to grow, we look forward to expanding into additional states and territories.
Can I attend events hosted by another state chapter?
Absolutely. APA encourages collaboration across all chapters. Members are welcome to participate in events organised by other chapters, whether in person or online, where available.
Are the chapters independent organisations?
APA operates as one national organisation with local chapter structures. Local activity should align with APA’s national governance and purpose.
What does each chapter do?
Chapter activity may include, where current and approved:
- Professional networking events
- Leadership forums
- Career workshops
- Community engagement activities
- Industry panel discussions
- Cultural celebrations
- Business networking opportunities
- Mentoring initiatives
Programs and activities vary by chapter and period, but all should support professional connection, growth, leadership, enterprise or contribution within APA’s purpose.
Membership
Who can join APA?
Membership eligibility depends on the membership category. Check the Membership page for the current eligibility, benefits and terms for each option.
Do I have to be of African heritage to participate?
APA’s primary professional community is African professionals. Appropriate pathways for allies and organisations should be described through approved membership, volunteering or partnership options.
Can I transfer my membership if I move interstate?
If you move interstate, contact APA to confirm how your membership and chapter connection can be updated.
